Rangers acquire Ramirez from Yankees
Surprise, AZ – The Texas Rangers have acquired pitcher Edwar Ramirez from the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations. Ramirez was designated for assignment in late February when the Yankees signed Chan Ho Park to a one-year contract. In 20 relief appearances with the Yankees last season, Ramirez had no record with a 5.73 earned run average. He spent the majority of the campaign at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre and was 1-5 with a 3.19 ERA in 29 games. Ramirez, who will turn 29 later this month, was a solid 5-1 with a 3.55 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 55 appearances during the 2008 season. In three big league seasons, the right-hander owns a record of 6-2 with a 5.22 ERA in 96 games.
